state health insurance and homebirth?

Thread Starter
hello, i am newly pregnant with #2. we had our first out in WA with a wonderful midwife and homebirth and the state health insurance paid for everything---AMAZING.

now we are back in minneapolis, on state Medical Assistance, with Health Partners as the provider--though i could also switch to Medica or Allina network.

just wondering if there is any possible way to get pre-natal care with a midwife and a homebirth covered through state insurance---does anyone have any experience with this? how much was covered? who was your midwife? how persistent did you have to be with your provider, etc?

many thanks---

http://mana.org/statechart.html CMPs are legal in MN, but they don't receive medicaid reimbursement. I don't know anyone who has had luck with that.
If you have a CNM they should pay. HTH!

We're on medical assistance and it did not pay for our homebirth or care w/ our CPM. With that said, it was totally worth it to me and our midwife was an amazingly wonderful blessing to us and willing to work with us on both a payment plan and reduced rate. We really have an amazing community here in the TCs.

I do not know of any CNMs that attend homebirths in the state.
