Dream stash, what do you think?

So I haven't ordered anything yet, but I think I'm starting to narrow it down. I'd appreciate any feedback on how well my dream stash might pan out in reality. I'm trying to cover most everything from newborn to potty time here.

6 kissaluvs hybrid OS contour dipes
6 flip diaper OS covers (I've only seen rave reviews, I'd like to rely on these as our primary covers, plus in a pinch we could use the bio-d inserts)
18 Indian prefolds, infants size (hoping we can use on NB, too?)
1 dozen Medium size unbleached flats (backup or maybe I'll love it, also to fold for inserts or lay under baby, etc.)
12 Bumgenius 3.0 OS--so we could go about 50/50 prefold w cover/AIO
handful snappies
some flushable liners just for convenience/ditto a pack flip inserts
diaper sprayer would be nice
wipes

I'm thinking this will cost around $400 and will hopefully last from newbie to potty champ.

How could I round it out or do I have unnecessary items here? Throw in some dappi pants? Just order the larger prefolds now, too? Maybe some mommy made wool wraps/pants, too. Do I need soakers/doublers or can we just stuff prefolds, plus the BGs come w/ nb and tot inserts.

What do you think, do I have my bases covered here? It sure has been on my mind a lot lately.

It looks pretty good but here are my suggestions:

Don't buy ahead on sizes - you don't know what you're going to like in reality. Just get the NB diapers now (18 infant PFs and 5 covers - but those one-size covers likely won't work for a NB.)

Definitely get the Diaper Sprayer. It is a must for making it not gross.

It does sound good. You have a bit of variety there which is good. You can def use the infant prefolds on a newborn, just fold the back down. That's what I did with both babes and it worked well. And, yes, they work well for stuffing pockets and doubling up overnite . 4 snappis should be more than enough, I keep two in our diaper bag and 2 in the house (w/2 in dipes). Cloth wipes are great, I would get prob 3 dozen to start and see how that works out for you. Flushable liners aren't a must, just depends on how high your "gross factor" is. If your baby is breastfed the whole time he/she is the dipes don't have to be rinsed or anything because it is water soluable and can go right into the washing machine. I've never used a diaper sprayer and I don't have to touch poo, so it's kind of a "do you want it". As far as doublers you can just try what you have and see how it works for now. Maybe get a couple hemp ones to compare absorbency for overnight. Welcome to the world of CD's!

I have used so many diapers.......

My favorite is still a fitted with a PUL cover.

Here are my thoughts:

6 kissaluvs hybrid OS contour dipes Contours are nice as it stops the folding of prefolds but they don't hold in the BF poo to well because it's harder to make them tight in the legs. I reserve mine as nighttime dipes as he doesn't poo at night. You could try them and see but don't be surprised if despite the elastic you still get leaks.

6 flip diaper OS covers I haven't used the flips personally. I use the GroBaby's which are the same concept but the covers won't be great on a NB but later you will really love them

18 Indian prefolds, infants size If you want a lot of bulk you might be able to fold them for a NB. My son would have drown in infant size at birth though. He was 7lb7oz. Plus prefolds do not hold the explosive NB poo in. So you'll need a lot of covers or to wash them often if you go this route.

1 dozen Medium size unbleached flats I might consider nixing this or getting NB prefolds instead. I realize the price is inviting but if it's just for a backup you might consider putting that towards something less frustrating or more useful. We used NB prefolds as doublers now and burp cloths which were way more absorbent than "burb clothes." So they weren't just something we used in the beginning and then had to ditch. (my sister uses them to clean the house now)

12 Bumgenius 3.0 OS These will not be great on a NB plus if you have a big kid they might not last to potty training. Nicker Nappies OS can fit a 5 year old so that's something to think about. I've also heard reports that the elastic goes so they don't last through multiple kids. Fuzzie Buns OS gives you extra elastic for later years. Something to think about. Also BumGenius OS Organics are more absorbent and there is no stuffing. Smartipants OS are really inexpensive around $13 each.

I'd consider getting something like a sized NB fitted dipe like a Kissaluvs with a Bummies whisper wrap and/or a thirsties cover for the first dipe stash then go to the OS and perhaps just sticking with one dipe system like the flips or Nicker Nappies and getting like 4 nighttime only dipes that are super absorbent like the BumGenius Organic OS or a Drybee size 2. SustainableBabyish is nice at night too but it's sized so you'd have to buy like a medium then later a large. That's not horrible if you're only buying 2 or 3 dipes though. Just something to think about. I also wouldn't buy the next stash until you know how the babe grows, it's body type, etc.

Having to change clothes all the time because a diaper leaked is pretty frustrating, especially if you're out. Not to mention embarrassing. You can easily survive on what you listed, those are just my thoughts on it.

The OS probably won't fit until 10lbs. For my ds, that was about 2 weeks old but for many it's much older. I'm not sure how much of that will fit a nb well. But it sounds like a GREAT stash for after 10lbs or so!! It looks like that would be 2-3 days worth of diapers for a baby that will fit in them. I find that 15-20 is pushing it for a laundry load, so you'll have enough to fill a load, and have another day or more worth to use on laundry day.

What size flats are you thinking? (as in, what brand/size). I have Little Lions flats, and they are too bulky to "padfold" for my 6 month old during the day. Those are bigger than most though, so I'm guessing those aren't the one's you're thinking. I've decided I love flats for padfolding in covers. I could never feel the pf love, though. I've read that Osocozy flats are trimmer when padfolded, and granitesmith/doodles diapers flats are either the same or slightly thinner, depending on the type. (judging by the weight of each)

I recently saw the suggestion of using gerber flats on a tiny newborn. I think it would work, and not be too bulky, if you changed often. And they are cheap, and quite useful for all kinds of non-cd stuff.

My ds went through about 20 changes/day as a newborn. We tried to change him when wet, but also he pooped almost every time he peed.

FWIW - We love our Flip covers! They fit DS great now on the smallest setting (length-wise). He is almost 4 mos. though, don't know how they will fit a NB (my guy is a little on the smaller side). But they are def. a good investment, IMO.

I am looking at the Medium unbleached Birdseye flats 28x30 after washing on Greenmountaindaiper.com I was going for the Medium because the site owner says, "If you want to have one size birth to potty learning, then pick the medium unbleached." As you can see from my list, I'm all about the one-sized! I thought about going with the smalls (27x27, the osocozy size available on amazon), but then would I be able to use them on a bigger baby?

I just thought I'd give the flats a try, and since we may have to do some handwashing/laundromat, they might work out nicely as a backup.

So you use flats---I have some questions. Don't you have to use two flats to equal one diaper in cover? So a dozen flats would really be six diaper changes?

All right, so what I'm getting from this thread is
A. the OS stuff won't fit til 10 lbs---I am anticipating a smaller baby, so I should probably invest in some nb fitteds or more prefolds?

B. the flip/grobaby covers will be huge on a nb--I should probably invest in a handful of nb covers.

Drat! I was trying to avoid buying two separate stashes for nb and older babe. Plus, I can't believe how fast the price of fitteds adds up! I was hoping that the kissaluvs os contours would fill in for nb fitteds, too.

I may have to bust out the sewing machine---I just want to save our $ to invest in the long-term stash, not so much the nb dipes.

Thanks for the feedback! I've been wavering between them and the grobaby os covers. I might do three of each, but that sounds like a pain if you ever wanted to actually use the inserts. I'm thinking I'll get the flip ones; they cost less.

Question-have you used the flip with the disposable insert, j/c? Or do you use it with a prefold stuffed as an insert or just with a prefold/fitted laid inside the cover? I see that the flip diaper has soakers that you can order with it, but I think I'll hold off on those.

infant pfs would be huge on a NB, my son is 2 and we use infant pfs lol. I used preemie pfs for the first 4 mo.
I dont know about flip, but i adore my BG 3.0 Onesize pockets, but they wont fit a NB.
