Please educate me about how to begin potty learning

DS is 2.5 and up until now i have had no interest to encourage him to use the potty. We have pottys for him and we often ask if he'd liek to try to use them but that's sort of where it ended. We figured he'd begin when he was ready.

However we also are considering a waldorf preschool program for him in september(3 days a week) and the one catch is that DS will need to be potty trained before he can begin.

So how to I begin? I would gladly do naked time but our house is drafty and cold and I feel like it would be mean to make DS run around nude in this cold house. When I mention the potty I am met with a NO and while I don't want to force the issue, I do want to begin encouraging potty use.

But I have no clue as to where to begin.

If your house is too cold for naked training, how about just a pair of loose sweatpants on bottom (no diaper or underwear). He'll feel when he's wet, but not be as cold. You'd need several pairs, but you can get cheap ones at thrift stores. After that, I don't know...we're trying naked time and not having much luck.

a key in helping our NO POTTY girl turn into a eager learner was that we make potty time into a routine and into fun. we started out simple, we sat on the potty before bath every night so that it became part of her bed time routine. she did peepee on the potty, she got a sticker to decorate her potty with. she didn't, no big deal. but it was part of our routine every night (if there was no bath, we just got her into her jammies in the bathroom and sat her on the potty during the change).
currently, we are in the potty training with underwear but no pants at home stage. she's doing really well. and yes, we have to take her to the potty every half hour or so until she learns consistently to tell us, but it's worth it as my diaper laundry has gone down threefold.
try checking out "early-start potty training" by linda sonna or "diaper free before three" (which is a super popular one here among MDC mamas) to give yourself some ideas.
make it fun, no pressure. we do stickers, color, read books, and more while on the potty. we sing the peepee in the potty song (by kimya dawson) when she's successful. let DS know that you don't like accidents but it's not something that will be punished. DD helps mommy/daddy clean up accidents or sits on the potty for the amount of time it takes mommy/daddy to clean up.
hth and good luck!
