it's happened twice. i always nurse him to sleep, so i would know if it had happened more often. last time was several weeks ago, it just happened again. his arms sort of trembled, just as he was falling asleep. he's 4 months old. going to the ped. for well baby today, and will ask then. just wondering if anyone else has ever experienced this, and what could be the cause. TIA.

I wouldn't worry too much about it--it sounds like:

Happens to me all the time.

I can't find my link right now but google "infant shudder syndrome" I think it starts around that age.

My 5 month old also does this, not all the time but a fair amount. I was really freaked out the first couple times, I thought he was having a seizure! I tried to get it on video to show the pediatrician because without being able to duplicate it for him he couldn't do much for me. After talking with him and doing some research though it sounds like some kids just have this benign trembling syndrome. If you look on youtube there was a baby eating from a bottle that does the same thing my little guy does. I don't think it's anything to worry about, it looks like kids grow out of it and it seems harmless. Hope the Pedi appointment went well!

Kate used to do this all the time! It freaked me out. She actually used to shudder in-utero and I'd feel it. I always thought she was having a seizure. My ped said if I could hold the limb and that stopped it from trembling then it was not a seizure. Sure enough, I'd hold her foot or hand and it'd stop. She grew out of it by 6 months.. we chalked it up to an immature nervous system.

update: doctor appt. today, she said the same thing as the last poster... that if you can stop the trembling by holding the arm (or leg), then it's nothing to worry about. (and if you can't stop the trembling, then you should call the doctor.)

thanks, ladies!!

Mine did (maybe does? haven't seen it in a while) too. I was convinced he had something horrible wrong with him. Obviously it's normal. Scary as hell, but evidently normal.

dd did this too. Haven't seen it in awhile here either. I don't think hers stopped when you held her arm or whatever, but it did when you woke her up, and it never lasted more than a few seconds. A quick MDC search told me it was okay haha so I forgot about it. She seems to be fine!
