Opening up my own early learning center.

Not sure where to post this, so mods feel free to move it if need be. I've been running a daycare out of my house since last May. I graduated just before with a degree in Child and Family Development. My intention has always been to open an early learning center in my community. A place with childcare and preschool offered, and hopefully in the future we'd expand to having an elementary school... but that's far in the future, probably.

Anyway, the time spent at home has shown me one thing, I don't want to be stuck in my house anymore! So, last end of last fall I started looking into renting a building to expand a little. I graduated with two people who are from my community and have very similar goals and want to embark on this adventure with me. So, I have a preschool director lined up and most likely a toddler room coordinator as well. I'm quite certain I have someone very interested in running and infant room.

We're all ready to take the steps involved in getting this place going and are hoping to have it open within the year. Is anyone here in a similar situation? Anyone gone through the steps to open a center that would be able to offer some advice? I would like to look into getting a small business loan, but don't have a location lined up yet, so I can't say how much work would be involved in getting it started. We don't want a huge place yet, probably more like 20-25 kids at the time, but want a place that has room to grow. My goal is to eventually build my own building, but I'm fine with renting a place to get started. Really, any advice is very much appreciated in helping me get this off the ground!

I would sit down with your friends and write a business plan (or write one and then let them approve it). You will need it to get financing, etc.

Research the cost of everything first-- insurance, rent, snacks, etc. Put it down in your plan.

I haven't actually started a business, but have worked on business plans with folks for other ventures...
