What is your first assumption when you hear this name?

Addison,

girl or boy?
I think of a girl.

Girl name...way overused girl name.
Five years ago I would have said boy but now I think it's becoming used more for a girl.

Girl. Trendy girl. Girl whose name will date her as surely as Jennifer and Lisa did for those of us born in the 70's. Girl whose name will make people of the future wonder why anyone ever thought it was a good idea to give a poor little girl baby a name which sounds a street or a high school or a corporate law firm - and puts one in mind of a poisonous snake, to boot.

This thread caught my eye because I have an Addison here right now (boy!) playing with my sons.

I know a man my age named Addison, but it's definitely a girl name on babies these days. It's super trendy.

Harsh, but I kinda have to agree. The trend for last names on girls is really bad, I think. I get that parents are kind of going for a preppy thing, but all the preps went over to the Irish names or the Granny names a decade ago. Now the whole Addison/Madison thing just sounds trying hard. I like Adelaide.

I think Girl, but I also think of Addison's Disease.

Well I would assume the child was a girl, but I'd rather it be a boy. =P

Addison means 'son of Adam' so to me it's all boy.

Sorry! All I think of is Addison's Disease!

I like it though...it just sounds kinda odd as a name to me.

I agree on it being WAY overdone... but yes is currently a girls name.

Definitely girl. And getting very overused. At my old workplace we had 4 Addisons born in a 3 month period of time. It reminds me of Addison's Disease, too. Or Wrigley Field (street address being on West Addison Street).

you're all confirming what I thought. It is one name we both could live with for a boy, I dont' actually know anyone named this, but I think of it as a boys name, then I looked at the baby names for my province and it has been on the top 20 list for girls for the last several years, How I HATE choosing names!

If you like Addison for a boy, what about Asher or Harrison?
Although a lot of parents name girls Addison, it is most definitely a boys name.
I've only met boys with the name.
It was a boys name but became a girl's name like Madison and Kelly.

I am chiming in here to say that lots of folks' comments are cracking me up. lol
(I think of boy when I hear the name, by the way)

It's a boys name. There is a -son on the end. That makes it a boy's name, despite female television doctors with the name. And, ftr, Madison is a boy's name, too. However, I actually am a fan of traditionally boy's names used for girls.
