overactive bladder?

I had my yearly gyn exam today and my dr. said I either have an overactive bladder or have retained some pregnancy urinary urges. Here's the deal - since dc were born (I had full term twins) I have the urge to pee, only at night when I am lying down trying to sleep. I always pee before bed. As soon as I lie down I feel the urge to pee. Get up and try. Sometimes I can push a little urine out. Lie down again. Repeat. It is hard b/c I can't fall asleep if I feel I need to pee but I know that I don't need to. Sometimes it can be alleviated with switching positions, sometimes not. Dr. prescribed a med (forgot which and haven't picked it up yet - there is a commercial for it) and advised me to take it for three months and see if it helps. After three months go off of it and see if problem returns. She said if nothing else, it would give my bladder a break.

So. . . has anyone experienced this? I don't do kegels regularly and from the small amount of research I've done I see that I need to. I'm hesitant to take prescribed medicines. I mean, I don't have a problem with medicine when it is needed, but wonder if I should/could try something else first.

eta - my urine is never dark and it doesn't hurt to pee so she ruled out an infection.

I also wonder if it could be prolapse related? I think I may have a prolapsed urethra ( and everything else too ) but that might be the cause of the sensation of needing to pee more than I actually need to pee, yswim?
Because I'm not leaking or going all the time.
Just a thought. I have no diagnosis and your Doc must have looked for prolapse too I would have thought??

Have you tried homeopathy btw?

Not sure if she checked for prolapse. I told her about this as she was doing an internal exam. We finished talking and then she did (what I assume) was a quick internal exam of my bladder. (fingers inside and pushing on my stomach).
Since taking meds for two days I've noticed that along w/ the urge I actually pee.

Homeopathy is over my head as far as self diagnosis but I think I've found a practitioner in my area. I have done some internet research and found some herbs/supplements that may help and may be trying a wheat/dairy free diet. I want to give the meds a month on their own before I try anything else.
