Is Lila a diminutive of Delilah? That's probably why I wouldn't choose it.
Elizabeth is one of my favorite names-- one nice thing about it is that there are so many nicknames of so many different sorts-- Betty, Becky, Bess, Lizzie, Liza, Lisa, Beth, Eliza, etc, etc.-- so whatever you daughter's personality, she could choose a name that would fit (and it might just be Elizabeth, of course).
I voted for Elizabeth for the same reasons MaterPrimaePuellae did. And also because I know two little Lilas - the name is becoming very popular. It is a lovely name, I just tend to shy away from names that everyone else is currently using. But if you totally love a name, use it. I loved what ended up being a popular name for DS, but we didn't use it and it took me a long time to get over.
I have loved the name Elizabeth my whole life but since I have Lila on my names list I had to vote for that. I think you can't go wrong either way. Lila is such a pretty name and like a previous poster said Elizabeth is great because of all the nicknames. I have a friend who's named Elizabeth and she went by Beth growing up but switched to Liz in college because she wanted a change. I think she really liked being able to do that.
I'm voting for Elizabeth because I know *so many* toddlers and babies named Lilly, Lillian, Lila, etc. If you combine all those similar sounding names I wouldn't be surprised if it would be #1 right now. That said, if popularity doesn't bother you, Lila is a lovely name.
Elizabeth because it's classic and dignified. Lila sounds like someone in a bad country song.
OMG That is too funny!!! We are leaning more and more towards Elizabeth... I love Bess as a nick name as long as it doesn't become Bessie... Of course we could have a boy and this could all be pointless.
I like both names... Elizabeth is my DD's middle name and she has decided that her sister's name will be Leila (pronounced Lila) - i'm 99% sure that I will name her Leila too.
