i tried to do the crockpot method with soy milk and ended up withroom temp soy milk with a clumo of yogurt in it, lol.

i was able to find some coconut milk yogurt, but $1.25 for an 8oz cup is WAY out of my price range

You might try posting this in Traditional Foods.

Here are a couple old threads I found that might steer you in the right direction:

I have a recipe for it on my blog, www.kathysrecipebox.com. It wasn't easy to figure out. I had a lot of failed batches. You'll need non-dairy starter (I get mine from www.giprohealth.com), coconut milk, vanilla (if you want), a sweetener (I use palm sugar or maple syrup because my DS can't have cane sugar and DD2 can't have honey), and tapioca starch.

there are other methods... you can look up those on here... some people use a cooler and some people use a slow cooker I think... and a heating pad...

I've only used the starter because none of the commercial coconut milk yogurts are safe for us, so I don't know how to start it from anything else.

Tapioca starch... you could use arrowroot starch or cornstarch. I get it online, at health food stores, at Asian market, and some grocery stores.
