(xposting with my DDC)

I know I probably shouldn't let this consume my mind, but feeling a bit unsure as we haven't decided on a name yet, and it is bothering me. We have a couple frontrunners going now. I am OK with not being 100% sure right now and waiting until after she is born, but I am not convinced I will see my daughter and just KNOW which one will fit her.

Here are our current frontrunners (our criteria is that it is not common, but easy to pronounce and fairly intuitive to spell):

Colette - we think this is pretty and feminine, nickname might be Coco but probably would just call Colette
Marlena - strong and sophisticated in our opinion, and we like all the possible nicknames for when she is young (Marlo, Marley, Laney - which nn do you all like?)
Malena - without the "r", think this sounds pretty and a bit more exotic. Nickname would probably be Laney.

Help!!!

I think all three are ok. When I hear Marlena all I think about it that character that used to be on Days of Our Lives Colette is pretty, but I voted for Malena because I think it can be cute as a little girls' name and it's beautiful as a woman's name, and, I just really like how it sounds! Good luck! You have three good options IMO.

My cousin is named Nicolette which I think might be nicer then just Collette. Marlena is fine but Malena is odd... like it should be Malina or something.

i like colette but I am extremely partial to the ETTE sound as my daughters name ends with one (I do not share it though because I do want it to stay as very unique as it is right now, as it was a very very special choice to use that name)

marlena brings to mind alternative music for some reason... but that is not bad because i like that sort of music. malena just looks like someone misspelled marlena.

so... either colette or marlena.

I ***love*** Marlena, and the nickname Laney. Awesome name!

I like Marlena, but would have said it "Mar-lee-na" intuitively. Same with Malena. If you're truly looking for easy to pronounce, then I vote Colette.

Exactly my thoughts. I like Marlena/Malena equally but they do have pronunciation issues.

For Malena should be pronpounced muh-len-uh. It is a Hispanic name & I think it is very beautiful.

I really like Malena (Ma-LAY-a)...but most people would pronounce an N in there since N's are not a silent sound. But I love the sound you spelled out. To me, the sound for Malena is Ma-lee-NAh. Similar to the name Mélina. Remember there is still time after the birth when you can wait to decide on a name!
