prickly red rash ??

What could be causing this? I can't get it to go away! It's mostly below his belly button, and above his penis. All across that area. There are a few bumps by his thighs too. None on his bum or scrotum, and not in the creases.

I tried using nothing but fitteds with fleece longies for a couple days- it's no better. Today I used a combo of sposies, flats under cotton pants (just changed his pants when he peed) and bare butt time. Still there.

What kind of rash does this sound like? I change him really frequently- as soon as I realize he's wet, but I'm sure I don't always get him immediately after he pees. 10+ times per day, for sure.

Can you describe it more? Is it in the creases of his legs? (yeast) or does it look like a contact rash?

It's not in the creases (though he does sometimes get a different rash in his creases). Only on the smooth flat skin between his penis and belly button, and a few bumps on the outside of his thigh crease. No rash on his bum at all.

eta- it's starting to get a dry, chapped skin look in some parts. It doesn't seem to bother him, even when I touch it.

This sounds like the rash my dd had recently, i tried everything i could think of and it got so bad that the dry chapped area started flaking off leaving open sores. it was... horrible! but what solved the problem was taking her out of cloth and buying some disposables for the first time in years! thats where we are now and im trying to figure out how to treat these clothes of ours.

good luck

It's getting more dry/chapped today and slightly less bumpy/rashy. I hope this means it's going away, and not that it's going to get worse.

It's so wierd! I was thinking about just trying sposies (and I am using those and one type of fitted until it goes away), but then I realized that if sposies don't give a rash, there HAS to be a way to get cloth to not give a rash. kwim? His clothes don't give him a rash, so hopefully I can figure this out (and you too!)

Here are my thoughts on what it could be-
-detergent -in which case, switch detergent or rinse better. I bought Country Save because it seems good for sensitive skin
-feeling wet - so BG's or Kawaii might be a good solution. Both feel a lot drier than fleece, and imo even drier than sposies sometimes.
-sensitivity to fleece- get rid of fleece, I guess (which will make me VERY sad! most of my stash involves fleece in some way or other)
-Some other laundry issue- ammonia or urine reacting with enzymes. I guess switching detergent might help with this too.

Um, what else could it be?

So I got it to go away using gerber flats and cotton pants, and changing immediately after he peed. Lots of laundry!!
I then tried my thin cotton (maybe not 100% cotton- not sure) fitteds, snapped loosely. I was SURE these were going to be ok. I used them under cotton pants, and changed immediately after he peed except for during one nap he may have been wet for a few minutes. He got a rash halfway through the day.

So this complicates things. I'm not sure what to think now!

sounds like heat rash. We got those a lot here considering where we are.. I loved burts bees dusting powder to keep the rash at bay we also CD with loose fitting cloth I could change ASAP covers that allowed air flow were best.. Nicky 100% cotton wraps or dappi pull on pants or ME air flows on a loose setting worked best.

We also figured out she HAD to stay dry like over night and for extended naps sadly fleece and suade cloth made the rash worse and obviously I wasnt; cautious enough to change 12 times during the night.. So we sposied then..

Yeast. Bumpy, red, peels occasionally.

hmmm..this wasn't in my subscribed threads. :headscratch

anyway, his rash was dx'ed as eczema.
I've wondered if it could be yeast- it looks like pictures of rashes that others have said looks like yeast.

It responds really well to steroid cream (we've used it twice when it got pretty bad). If it was yeast, would steroid cream make it go away?

My ds2 gets this rash that sounds exactly like what you are describing, but he gets it both with sposies and with cloth. But sometimes he has it and sometimes he doesn't. Hard to figure out. But we have food sensitivities in our family and sometimes I think I should blame it on something I've eaten that has bothered him when he urinates.

Even when I don't change my cloth routine, it still comes and goes, so I think it has to be something else. It doesn't look like yeast to me, honestly, but I'm no expert...

If you get it figured out, let us know!
