Hypnobirth/Hypnobabies Birth Attendant Conflict?

Hi,

I'm planning to use the Hypnobabies home study program to prepare for my hospital delivery, and I also plan to hire a doula I liked who is trained in Hypnobabies. So far so good. However, it turns out my midwife (CNM), who will be my birth attendant in the hospital, is trained in Hypnobirthing. Does this difference in methodology matter? I've heard that there's been some tension between practitioners of these two methods, and I want to keep things peaceful during labor.
Should I really look into changing midwives? The other midwife/OB options I have would be folks with no background in hypnosis. Isn't it better to have a midwife with hypnosis training even if it is a different method? Those who have used both Hypnobirthing and Hypnobabies perhaps would have an idea? Will the difference between the two methods create confusion or conflict during birth?

Thanks!

so far as I remember, you can use your bubble of peace for any words that may not align with your Hypnobabies. Do you have a relationship with this caregiver? That speaks heaps and does the caregiver have a conflict with you using Hypnobabies? An opportunity for conversation, right?

I know hypnobabies says *not* to do any other type of birth prep in addition to itself...

I would maybe call the hypnobabies hotline and ask, and then discuss anything they bring up with your caregiver.

Also, there's a hypnobabies yahoo group that might be helpful.

I'm curious about this as well... my doula is a Hypnobirthing instructor, but before I signed up for her class, I read a lot about Hypnobirthing vs. Hypnobabies and decided that Hypnobabies was for me. My doula asked me at our last meeting if I was planning on taking the class and I mentioned that I'd actually started the Hypnobabies home study course. Her response was positive, she said "excellent." So I'm hoping there'll be no conflict though I'm curious to know how this situation went for others. Hopefully they're similar enough that it won't be a problem, and in my case, my doula seemed familar with the Hypnobabies lingo.

Sorry if this is disjointed, DH is out of town and I've been run ragged by my 3-year-old!

I would think that you're better off with any kind of hypnosis training than not. I used Hypnobirthing for my first and am doing Hypnobabies this time around. I'd say there is more common ground than differences...like you said it's basically just the methodology that *you* are using that's different. It sounds like a great setup to me!
