Sloane: Yay or Nay?

For girl names we are currently considering Sloane Elizabeth. Whadaya think?

FYI: DD #1's name is Kate Lynn. If it's a boy his name will be Luke Jameson.

I don't really have any opinions either way, but it does make me think of Ferris Bueller's Day Off. That was Ferris Bueller's girlfriend's name: Sloan Peterson. I still still hear it said in the funny voice that the Cameron character used when he pretended to be her dad and called her out of school!

I don't like it, but I have found that I'm RIDICULOUSLY picky this time around.

to me it almost seems to date yourself rather than the child... I agree with the ferris beuller thought as well.

Grey's Anatomy?

I think the name is nice, though to me Sloane is a more masculine name.

You also should know that in Great Britain, the word "sloane" (or "Sloane Ranger") basically means yuppie: it comes from an area of London where entitled and rich young people lived. I think the heydey of this term was in the 80's? But it still has that connotation, which is I bet why it was picked for FB's girlfriend's name (she was very posh).

I thought of Sloane Ranger, too. To me the name reeks of entitled snobbery. I could see it as a middle name, maybe, if it had some family connection. But as a first, never.

Why not use Elizabeth? That's a lovely name.

LOVE LOVE LOVE the name Sloane. I have it on my(very) short list for a girl only.

If you love the name....don't ask anyone what they think. It will be bashed and everyone can come up with something bad that they associate with the name...
I do not think the name reeks of entitled snobbery....and from the looks of it the OP is from California.....so I'm not so sure if the "Sloane Ranger" yuppy association would mean anything to most people from the States.

Yes it may sound masculine but hey- people name their girls Charlie, Grayson, etc and in Britain the name Kristin, Ashley and Lindsay are used for both girls and boys...although here in North America they are mostly seen as girls names...

So I say name your kiddo a name you love.

I completely adore the name Sloane! I know the *sweetest* little girl here in town with that name

I love the name Sloane too (although for me it's also a family name so that makes it extra special). It is also on our short-list, I almost wish we had used it for DD2.

I used to babysit a little girl (well she's grown up now!) named Sloan Elizabeth

This really does sum up my opinions of any name anyone ever asks about!

Nay, but only bc I want it to stay uncommon as I want to use it. I totally love that name! I do think of Ferris Bueller and Grey's but who cares. Its really cute.

I like it too, but I definitely think of it as a man's name. Makes me think of Alias- the bad guy.

Not my style, but as a pp said it's what you guys like that matters.
