Would you eat this? Would your kids?

I'm on the lookout for new and tasty sandwich ideas.

I found a recipe for a Hawaiian sandwich spread that is a mix of tuna, peanut butter and pineapple. I can't decide whether that would be delicious or revolting.

What do you think?

I'm not sure about the peanut butter, but tuna-pineapple pizza is a pretty common thing to eat in Britain and it is delicious!

even without our peanut allergy, there is no way we would eat that in our house.

We would try it. If you pick apart a traditional "Hawaiian" pizza, you have pineapple, ham, cheese and tomato sauce. Sounds pretty gross when you think of it that way, but all together it's delicious.

(This has nothing to do with the issue and is not directed at the OP, but as someone actually from Hawaii, it annoys me to no end when people call things Hawaiian just because they contain pineapple. I actually never heard of a Hawaiian pizza until I left Hawaii. And pineapples didn't originate in Hawaii, anyway. )

Tuna prepared with vanilla yogurt and diced Granny Smith apples is quite delicious, as well.

Good point!

Sorry. Couldn't do that one. I don't think I could even bring myself to taste it!

nope. that sounds absolutely ridiculous.

I couldnt get past the tuna part

I would definitely not eat it! If I offered it to my kids, they might. They are young (4 and 2) and don't really have opinions and preconceived notions about things like that yet. For example, when I put dip on their plate they always ask me to clarify what the dip is for--their fries? Their fruit? Their cheese? They have no idea that dipping apples in ketchup is all kinds of yuck.

why not taste it? mix a tiny bit of tuna with a tiny bit of peanut butter, and dip a pinapple in it? i'd hate to make the sandwich though, hate it, and have to throw it away(and waste all that food!)

i probably wouldn't take a bite out of a sandwich like that, but if i tasted it first, i might!

No. That would not happen here. Tuna + PB = gross.

I hate tuna, so there's no way I'd eat it. But if you like all the things in the recipe and find it intriguing, why not mix up a little bit like a PP said and try it out. If you like it, make a bigger batch. If not, then make regular tuna sandwiches or something, save the PB for later and eat the pineapple on the side. Nothing wasted. If you do try it, I'd be interested to find out if you liked it or not.

My kids would. DH was joking around last week, thinking of gross things to make, and came up with tuna fish sandwiches sprinkled with mini marshmallows and chocolate powder. The kids demanded he actually make them. He did. And they've begged for them again just about every day since. *shudder*

I would try PB and pineapple. I'd try tuna and pineapple. I don't think I could get my head around tuna and PB though.

Revolting.

I can understand that, but I kind of think pizza should get a pass. The names given to pizza varieties are all like that - incorporate one thing that a particular area is known for, and then name it after that area. At the moment, I can't think of some of the others I've seen, but many of them are just ridiculous.

Nope, couldn't do it!

That sounds disgusting, but I suspect it might turn out to be okay. DS2 might eat it. I might eat it. DD1 would probably not touch it...but she might. She surprises me sometimes.
