Would you eat this? Would your kids? - Page 3

OMG peanut butter and fresh pineapple sounds so delicious to me that I'm going to make it for snack today! I love dipping fruit into peanut butter though so...

On the other hand the smell of canned tuna makes me retch. Keep that cat food AWAY from me!

And, I would like to point out that the name of this forum is "Nutrition and GOOD EATING". This just does not qualify for the latter, no how, no way...moderators?

But really, who would ever in the right mind think that tuna and PB are a good combo? And then blaming it on "Hawaiians", that is just too cruel!!! I am all for innovative juxtapositions of flavors, but there are limits, people!

Disgusting.

So, Napless, did you ever try it? Or are you currently in the hospital for food poisoning?

Okay... well, I tried it. Dh was making a tuna sandwich for lunch today. I made dd a pbj and put pineapple in her lunch. So I did a quick mix of maybe 1/4 c. or less... I was maybe a little heavy on the pb - but it was pretty good! Dd tried it and said it was a little sweet, but that it wasn't her "favorite thing in the world". Dh actually liked it and said that he might try it on crackers for a snack, but that it was too soggy to put in one of his flax wraps. He will eat ANYTHING, and I really mean that, so that was no surprise. It certainly wasn't disgusting or revolting.

I tried it.

First I mixed some peanut butter and tuna and tasted that. It wasn't absolutely vile, so I added some pineapple and tried that.

It was edible - certainly not the worst thing I've ever tasted - but I just kept thinking, "Why?" Why go to the trouble of mixing delicious peanut butter, delicious tuna and delicious pineapple to get a spread that is just barely edible?

I couldn't get anyone else in the family to try even a nibble. Fortunately I had made just a small portion, as some of you suggested. I spread a couple of crackers, and ate them, and then I put the rest in the compost.

Thanks for all the comments - they cracked me up! (Good for you, velochic!)

Do you think the cookbook author really tried making this?

How do you get your kids to try something new if you're not willing to try and you automatically dismiss something as "gross" or "revolting" just from the description? That's another rule in our house... no food is gross or revolting. It's personal preference... including the duck tongue that dd and dh love to eat.

And yeah, dd would try it too.
Same at our house.

I would try it, but honestly can say I can think of a zillion other things that I would rather use those ingredients for anyway.

I seriously detest canned tuna. It's like chewing a mouth full of fishy smelly straw. I LOVE smoked herring (kipper snacks) or tuna though, and for tuna i do make a ginger sauce with pinenapple and sesame butter.
