all night feeding fine, morning brings vomit..?

My DS is almost 5 weeks old. He feed every 3 hours at night like clockwork, he has huge nightly 'meals' at each feeding and always falls asleep soundly and happily when he is done.

This is true for his 9pm, 12am, 3am and 6am feedings..

However when he feeds at 9am (usually still in bed, nothing has changed in terms of environment, his placement in our bed, my placement in the bed, etc.. ) he will projectile vomit or projectile spits up and then proceeds to get really upset. I sometimes even have to refeed him once he has calmed back down.

This happens only at the 9am feeding and it happens at every 9am feeding.

Any ideas what would be causing this to happen and why? or better yet, what I could do to try and prevent the projectile attack and aftermath?

Perhaps the need to burp (and not burping) is the cause. I didn't co-sleep so I don't know how this would comfortably work, but can you hold him on your shoulder a few minutes before laying him back down?

Or, another thought which may not be the case since he's only 5 weeks, maybe he stirs and wants to suck but not eat. However, I doubt that is the case since he's a newborn!

it may be that he needs to burp before or during that morning feeding, especially if he hasn't all night.

I agree with the burping thing Also, he is only 5 weeks...this may totally disappear in a few weeks as his digestive system develops more. My ds would occasionally projectile puke and now he is 12 weeks and almost never does. Nothing has changed except that he is a bit older now.

what stage does the digestion stabilize in a BFing only baby?

Does it feel like you have more milk or a faster letdown at 9am? He might be getting the milk too fast--one thing to try is to lean back while you nurse so the milk has too go "uphill" which can slow the flow for him.

I agree with that he may need to be burped.
My little guy is 3 months old; we co-sleep and I feed him side lying throughout the night. In the morning he would often wake up with a big old spit-up even if he hadn't been fed for a coupld of hours. I realised that getting a burp out of him helped to solve the problem (most of the time anyway).
