ezcema

DD has increasing patches of ezcema on her face. She's had a nasty diaper rash for 3 weeks (not going away in spite of zinc oxcide creams and the sparing hydrocortisone the ped told us to use) and is increasingly gassy and miserable.

What is this? What can I do? 2 weeks ago I cut dairy out (but lapsed twice by accident) and just went on the full elimination diet (no dairy, wheat, soy, corn, peanuts - can I do other nuts?- or eggs). We'll see how that goes.

Should I be leery of vaxing her? We have a selective and delayed schedule but for some reason I feel like maybe in light of this I should consider not vaxing her at least initially.

The ezcema began this week and we've had bad screaming gassy nights since. Are these linked?

Help!

Hi, I'm so sorry. We went through this when ds1 was about a month old. He broke out in these odd rash spots that were not explained. They started within days of his vaccines, but I wasn't seeing the connection at the time yet. They kept going away and then popping back up until we stopped vaxing. So I think his were vax related, not food.
If you are having gas issues though, I'd say that part at least is diet related. How old is dd? If she's still within a few months old, the pimply stuff on her face is pretty normal if that's what you are referring to. For diaper rash, try some expressed breastmilk-works great. Also she may be allergic to the dipes, or soap etc? You might want to check in diapers or general baby/health and nursing for that stuff. Gas could just be other things as well-incorrect latch, swallowing air etc.
If you are on the fence about vaxing, just wait. You can move your delayed schedule back more until you feel comfortable.

Thanks!

DD is 5 weeks old. She hasn't been vaxed yet but we were going to do the first one at 4 months old and then 6 months old (though I feel funky about anything before a year old). We cloth diaper and use Tushies at night. Her poo is also sometimes greenish or has green strains through it.

It's not pimples, it's full on ezcema that's red and has a white crust over it that flakes off.

Since this is the Vax forum please focus on that aspect in this discussion. If you wish to continue discussion about treatment, causes, etc, please start a new thread in Health & Healing. Thanks!

I think the risk of vaxing a child with a health problem is much higher than delaying for a few months while you concentrate on clearing this up.

Just a point...

skin break outs are the body trying to clear something which isn't getting cleared the normal route

so the problem may not be a food intolerance but a digestive weakness

yes, I worry that this is a sign she may be suseptible to a bad reaction.

DH has pretty bad psoriasis... so she might have the hyperactive immune system that causes dermatitis.

I would def not vax until you feel you have a handle on this issue. You have family history of autoimmune disease. I think this is a good enough reason to not vax personally!
