Hi Mamas:
I'm just beginning this journey, so I know there is a lot to learn. It's been very difficult for me to come to the realization that the "quirky" behavior my oldest DS exhibits is actually on the spectrum and not just a part of being Gifted. He received an informal evaluation at his peds office earlier this week, and the ped referred us to a developmental peds clinic at another facility for the ADOS. Our ped believes that DS has many of the characteristics of Asperger's, based on my reporting of his history and her conversation with / observation of DS. Thankfully, my DH is Army, and thus we have many of the services DS needs easily available to us at no cost. However, because I want to make sure that I advocate for all of my son's needs (Gifted as well as Asperger's), I was wondering if any of you have any links, books, etc. I should read in advance of the observations, evaluations, therapy sessions, and planning meetings I will be attending in the future.
TIA!
