Chipped Tooth

My DS chipped his tooth about 6 months ago, and it seems to be getting worse and worse. I asked his ped about it at our last apt and he said not to worry about it.. but I don't want his tooth to disentegrate into nothing! Is there anything I can do? Right now we just make sure we brush teeth every night before bed with toddler (no flouride) toothpaste. Any suggestions?

Does it seem to be causing him pain? I had a chipped tooth as a child and it did hurt, so it had to be fixed by a dentist. He is younger than most kids are who see a dentist, though. I would probably call a local pediatric dentist and get their input.

We saw a pediatric dentist for A when he chipped both of his front teeth at 2.5. He said as long as it wasn't causing him pain, we'd just keep an eye on it. They've been slowly chipping more. He is now 4.5 and we get checkups every 6 months. There's no reason to do anything about it unless it hurts them. It doesn't look pretty but oh well!

My daughter chipped a tooth (possibly more than once) around 18 months. 6 months later, it had very, very bad decay, and so did the other teeth around it. I believe that the chip allowed bacteria to really take root more agressively than they would have otherwise. if I were you, especially because it's bothering your child, I would get to a dentist and get an x-ray, just to check in case there's deeper damage.

It doesn't seem to be bothering him at all. Should I switch to a flouride toothpaste? Would that help keep away bacteria, etc?

My daughter has had chipped front teeth. The dentist puts a tooth colored composite resin which he seals with an ultraviolet light. It's a really fast procedure. We're in and out within 10 minutes. The coating is very helpful and it protects the teeth.

My daughter chipped a top front tooth within a month or two of it emerging. The dentist I called said not much could be done unless things were really bad--ie, the tooth began to turn black. That didn't happen, although it does seem to be slowly getting smaller, or perhaps she's just growing into her teeth.

I didn't realize I could get it sealed. I might look into that.
I do use a flouride toothpaste.

I would NOT use flouride toothpaste, as hes still to little to spit it all out. And the flouride wont do anything about "bacteria" anyway. I dont even use flouride toothpaste on myself! Its scary stuff if you ask me.

Wow I had no idea! What is so bad about it?

I'd have a pediatric dentist take a look at it.
