Diarrhea from too much sugar?

Does anyone know if eating sugary foods can cause diarrhea? I am 22 weeks now with twins and for the past 2 weeks I have had bouts of diarrhea that come and come. In between my stools are normal. I've been trying to pay attention to what I ate prior to each episode so I can try to avoid it the rest of the pregnancy. It seems that every time I eat something with sugar I get the upset stomach. Like earlier I ate a piece of cake and within 45 minutes I was in the bathroom. Could it be the sugar or just a coincidence? And if it is the sugar is this a sign of gestational diabetes?

I don't know if sugar can cause diarrhea or not. I do know you are supposed to avoid sugary foods when you already have diarrhea, so maybe? I don't know if that's associated with GD. I had a bout of something just like what you're describing around maybe 17 weeks. (I can't remember exactly when it was now.) It just went away after a couple weeks. I didn't worry because I didn't have a fever, rash or any other symptoms, was having some normal stools, wasn't dehydrated, wasn't going several times a day, etc. Pregnancy does all kinds of weird things to your body and I just chalked it up to that.

I always get it when I eat too much sugar, pregnant or not. So I'd say definitely!
