Guidance, expecting newbie...

We currently happily cosleep/bed share with our son who is almost 3 yrs old. My DD was 3 when my son was born and made the choice to leave the family bed to her own little bed next to ours...eventually she asked us to put her little bed in her room (the then playroom) we gladly did as she asked. We believe in letting them guide us. Well my DS is not ready to move out of the family bed, if I move him into the small bed like we did with our daughter he immediately moves back in. Which we don't battle because it's not an issue, yet. But we are concerned with his very active sleeper, how it will work with a newborn coming home in June. We would hate to neglect one of the comfort we share in the family bed because of another...Guidance from others who have been where I am would be wonderful!!

We have a 3 year old and a 7 month old and we all sleep together. Comfortably too. It took some getting used to, but once our toddler got used to it (a few weeks), it's actually smooth sailing. We have a Cal King and we installed an infant guard rail on my side of the bed (stuff blankets or sheets in between the mattress and the guard rail to make sure there's no gaps). Our 3 y/o sleeps to my right and I place a small round buckwheat pillow between us. It creates a small barrier between us so when I have to switch sides with my little one to nurse there's something between my two kids. I also tend to sleep facing them with my arm resting on the buckwheat pillow so I can block any potential karate chops from my 3 y/o. We're very comfortable with how we've got it set up.

Hope you are able to figure it all out. Good Luck
