question about posterior

Thread Starter
so, my little guy has been sort of sideways on one side or another, head down, for ages, but this week has turned more full on posterior.

I'm gonna do my cat stretches, but my question is:

is the cat stretching supposed to make him suddenly turn right then and then hopefully stay there?

or is doing the cat stretches a couple of times a day going to somehow gradually tone things to encourage him to tend to turn around and stay there more and more.

kwim?

Normally it helps remind him that he should be going the other way If your baby is anterior--it won't make him go OP either.
Here are some great articles on OP baby--

I had my first who was OP & async...while it wasn't a super duper fun labor-I did it & didn't have a c-sec or even tear!! Keep up the good work mama

I think just getting him to move around is progress! My daughter was OP until the very end of my pregnancy.

A friend of mine had a persistently OP baby (her 2nd) who didn't turn until she was in labor. It wasn't a horrible back labor or anything. So there is hope!!

How do you know that the baby is posterior? My OB only says she is head down and will move in the right position in labor but is not very specific. She is still changing sides and felt sideways for the past days. From reading the links I think she might be posterior. Can it only be seen with an ultra sound?

Most OB's can only tell with an Ultrasound, or they only feel safe saying definetly with an U/S. Most Mw's can feel your belly and know. I wouldn't get too worked up about it. Posterior sometimes means a longer labor, but you can definetly have a vaginal delievery provided everything else is okay. Could mean back labor for some people, and some people it may not.

just because basically the whole entire front and sides of my belly are soft except for a baby's butt. whereas, for weeks before, we could feel a smooth baby's back along the whole right or left side of my belly.

Thanks you for your respond. I just opened a new thread 'cause i think baby went transverse and I am going crazy - a little ...

Ooh, transverse can't be a calm place to be, sorry! I really hope mine stays head down, and yours goes back to it.

In the last 24 hours, I am pretty sure I've felt my guy's back on the left, right, front, and now I don't feel it at all again! It's making me a little nuts. But I guess he just hasn't settled down yet. I'm 38 weeks plus 5, so, I don't know...

[I think sometimes when I post here I base my weeks on an edd of the 25th because that's what I came up with by myself with an online calculator at the beginning of my pregnancy, but the 27th is my official edd. I often let myself change what week I'm in on Mondays, though, instead of waiting til Wednesday. So if I contradict myself, that's why!]

Haha, I'm 38+5 here, too.

EDD is - according to US- the 27th, but I've got the 23rd in my head because that's what I first figured out based on date of conception.

Baby is very very much posterior right now. I've been trying to get him to flip but he won't STAY that way. Dr. says he's not engaged yet, which is good. I'd like him to engage one of those rare moments where he's the right way around. He's spinning around. If I lay on my back during his active periods I can feel him doing the full 360, just by feeling/watching his back slide across my stomach.

Although really, DD was posterior- for labour and birth, even- and I didn't have back labour, didn't push particularly long for a primip, etc. So maybe my body is just designed for posterior babies? No clue.

By the way, thanks to everyone for the responses, and thanks for those links, Gray's Mommy.

I think my son might have been posterior and that might have contributed to my never dilating [after 5 days of water broken, planned homebirth]. But we never found out for sure, and it wasn't in the c-section report.

I feel so much better physically this time around though, I feel like I will be able to be more proactive this time even if I do run into trouble...I hope.

I'll keep trying to live the 'anterior lifestyle' but am not gonna freak out about it.

So I went in for my now-weekly appt. w/midwife and told her than last week baby was posterior and I've been obsessing about it. Other than that day last week he's been pretty much facing exactly right for weeks, though...and he pretty clearly was today, too. But she said, do you want to take a quick peek on the portable ultrasound just to make sure? So, we did. I feel reassured to know that he is definitely where he feels like he is, and that he isn't posterior anymore. And she said he has a perfect round head, lol.

I also asked if I should feel safe doing squats and getting him engaged like he is and she said yes, so...I just feel much better.

I keep rubbing his back and saying "Good baby!" ever since he came out of posterior.

That's awesome news!

I am currently poking my baby's feet which are currently making my belly button very much an outie.

He hasn't changed position in... um, I think 3 days now? 2 or 3. He's going to engage like this, I just know it

Yup, and at least 30 min a day of hands and knees.

Ah well. I'm still expecting things to go well, and am hopeful he'll turn at some point... sometimes I think it'd be nice to NOT have this knowledge about positioning floating around in my head, lol!
