quick help please - DD fell and bumped face, teeth now a bit loose

I think they're the tiniest bit loose, I'll check again in a few minutes. She mentioned her teeth hurt (can't be too painful or she'd really be complaining about it.) She also had torn the frenulum a bit, which I assume should just be left to heal on its own.

Not sure about the teeth, though!

We are icing the lip and she has taken rescue remedy and homeopathic arnica.

Something like this happened to my DD when she was 3. The teeth got a bit loose, and eventually turned grayish, and we went to the dentist, who said there was really nothing to be done but wait and see what would happen. (And that there was nothing that could have been done right after she bumped her teeth to lessen the damage.) He was not optimistic, but the teeth eventually healed up and turned white again and everything was fine. So I wouldn't worry too much yet if I were you.

Are they definitely loose, or knocked out of place and not loose?

Dd1 had a dental mishap this fall. Her tooth actually rotated back, sending the root forward and breaking a tiny bone in the gum. Chipped the front teeth as well. Hurt a lot; bled a lot; bruised a lot. We actually went to the dentist that same evening. He took x-rays, numbed things up and put it all back into place, and then splinted the teeth so they'd stay that way. She was on soft foods; abx and an antibacterial mouth rinse for a week, to guard against infection.

Doesn't sound as if your lo's injury is quite so bad.

But if you have a good dentist, I'd call. I have one who takes after-hours emergency calls at home.

I think that's pretty common and they just tighten up again if they aren't seriously knocked out of place.

Thanks, all, I think the teeth will be ok. No chipping or anything. Sounds like they'll tighten up in a few days; they are barely loose, if at all.

glad they seem to be ok

My dd fell back in November and cut her chin, split her lip, and her bottom two front teeth seemed loose and had bruising along the gum-line. We did take her in for x-rays and to be sure that everything was okay, by the time we got her to the dentist ( about 2.5 hours later) the teeth really didn't seem to be moving anymore. Everything turned out fine. Hope your dd is feeling better.

They don't really do anything with baby teeth unless they HAVE to. Our DD knocked her teeth back with a fall when she was 2. We freaked and took her to the dentist that night and really he just poked at them and said - yes, they are loose! and yes, these did move a bit!

For us it worked out well that DD liked and used a pacifier - it helped get her teeth back where they belonged.

We did go back 3 or 6 months later (I forget) for them to check the teeth for an abcess/any problems that might have come of the accident.

So I think being mindful that you did have this happen and considering that as a potential issue a few months down the road isn't a bad idea, but nothing to fret over.
