Looking for a safe way to cushion DD's bed

My daughter is 2, she co-sleeps with us most of the time, but we do have her toddler bed set up in our room where she used to spend the beginning of the night...until recently. Now she insists on going to sleep in our bed right from the start, and if I put her to sleep in her bed she eventually cries out and I have to go in. I kind of suspect that part of it is because her mattress is just not that comfy. It's an organic crib mattress.

We plan to move her to her own room ASAP....but I really want to cushion her mattress up when we do that, so it's more cozy and comfy for her. I won't use foam or anything because obviously that is bad news. Any suggestions? I suppose I could just use a blanket or something under her sheet, but I don't really think her sheet would fit? We do have a mattress pad but it doesn't make much of a difference. I have tried to just lay a blanket over the top so she is lying on top of it, but she just insists on getting under it.

Just wondering if someone has a suggestion that I haven't thought of.

TIA!

I wish I had a good suggestion here because we're in the same boat. Daughter sleeps fabulously in our bed whether we are in it or not, but not so much in her own toddler bed. Lots of possible reasons for it, but like you I suspect it is because it's just not a comfortable mattress. She'd rather use it as a trampoline.

I asked here and was directed to a store online that sells 100% wool crib-sized mattresses. They're pricey as all get out, but I considered it out of desperation. Then I read some reviews that they're not terribly comfy either, and am hesitant to try something that 'spence that I can't see in person first. They also sell mattress pads, and I may try that...the site is http://www.shepherdsdream.com/ I'm not too concerned about the safety of cushy stuff since I know she would be fine with it...and honestly would love to find something plush and soft!

Please pass it along here if you do come across something! We have tried laying down a thick layer of several blankets to soften things up, but they just end up all messy and waking her up more as she turns in the night.

there are 100% cotton pads you can get, dont remember the brand but they are AWESOME. i'll see if i can look it up.
oh and if the sheet is a tight fit and youre worried about it popping off, quilting size safety pins work great to secure sheets at the corners

ETA the brand is natura, they offer cotton or wool toppers

I just got a natural latex mattress topper for my bed, and both babe and I sleep a lot more soundly in it now. You'll probably have to really look to find one that makes toddler size, or is willing to custom, but I really didn't expect that much from a 2 inch mattress topper over an old futon mattress, but I was wrong.

IKEA is the answer! And they're cheap.

Here is one option, but they have others as well: http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/10108482
