prefolds on babies who are sitting up

I've used GMD prefolds on my DD since day one. At 17lbs, she is currently in the red edge and a Thirsties medium cover. The prefolds have always held everything in without a problem. But now that DD is sitting up, when she has a BM, it shoots straight up her back. At best the cover is full of poop and at worst it explodes out of the cover and fills the back of her outfit.

Any thoughts on how to prevent this? Do I need to use a different type of diaper?

ETA: I should mention that we use the angel wing fold and fasten with a snappi. Maybe the wrong fold or the wrong size prefold?

I alwasy used premium sized on my DD and because of it had to fold the back down a bit for the rise by doing this though it created a kinda pocket in the back to catch any explosive poo...
