When you see the name Lucia, would you pronounce it:

Lu-see-ah

or

Lu-chee-ah

Just curious, we love the name for a girl, but with a soft "s" sound. Will she forever have to correct people on how to pronounce her name?

P.S. I have nothing against the other pronounciation, in fact I am Italian (by heritage) so you'd think I'd prefer it, but for some reason the first way sounds better to my ear.

when i see it i think lu-chee-ah. never heard it the other way, but if you like it go for it.

as far as having to correct people, yes she will when people see her name in print first, but when introducing herself she'll say lu-see-ah and there won't be any confusion. doesn't seem like that big a deal if you really like the name.

Neither! I'd say Loo-sha. But it's a name that has multiple valid pronunciations. She'll have to correct people no matter which you choose. L names are hot hot hot right now too. Lovely name, but climbing.

Lu-see-ah ... all the way. I don't think I've heard it pronounced the other ways.

I pronounce it Loo-sha - but that is mainly because I have a friend of a friend that is named Lucia and pronounces it that way.

I agree with this - if I only saw the name written, I'd think Loo-sha first -- and I'd know I might get corrected! If not Loo-sha, then Loo-chee-uh.

I've never heard it prn Loo-see-uh, so that would never occur to me. Doesn't mean it's less valid, just that I've not heard it.

Lots of Italian families in my area... definitely Lu-chee-ah.

I'm another from the Loo-see-uh or Loo-sha camp! I've never heard Lu-chee-ah

this is how I've always 'heard' it when I see it!

I'm a language nerd so I'd say Lucheea. You have to decide if needing to correct pronunciation is bothersome, for you and for her when she is older.

My DD is named Luciana (Lu-see-ah-na), but we mostly call her Lucy. Most people call her by the proper pronounciation (doctors offices, etc.) but I have been asked for clarification before. It's no big deal. I would say that most people in this county would pronounce your name Lu-see-a. The funny thing is that I frequently call DD by many nicknames that involve the "ch" sound. In fact, DH had a t-shirt made for her that says "the Looch", since that's how we refer to her a lot.
I really like the name Lucia, it's beautiful. Unless you have a very straightforward name there's always the possibility for mispronounciation.

around where i live it is automatically assumed Lu-See-AH though I would not rule out Lu-Sha... but that is really only when talking about the island st. lucia... not when talking about a lady.

I would never think lu-chee-ah because it is so closely related to lucy which i would never pronounce lu-chee but always lu-see

Dh is Mexican & this was his grandma's name. It is Loo-see-uh. In fact we are concidering using the name Lucy as a sort of tribute to her Sorry, but the pronounciation Loo-chee-uh has always maked me think of the bleeding after you give birth, lochia

Weird. My nieces name is Lucia. Pronounced Loo-see-ah. We call her Lucy. No one has ever mispronounced her name, or questioned it for that matter. It would have never crossed my mind.
