River as a name?

post #1 of 25
Thread Starter
DH and I really like River as our girl/boy name - our last name is strong German and DD is Riley Ann Br_____n (2 syllables). We will go with River James for a boy and River ? Grace? for a girl most likely.

What do you guys think of these names? Mainly River - the middle names are ~~ at this point.

Love it. Like your middle name choices too and they both go well with River.

River makes me think of Firefly (one of the characters) which in my eyes is NOT a bad connotation as she was adorable and a genius.

I like River for a girl, not sure about for a boy. We were looking at River too, but we would spell it with a Y because we have a thing for Y's...hehehe.

River = stunning
I love it for boy or girl and as far as middle name goes, I am not very good at picking good flows, but I say go with something with meaning to you and your husband, and if is special to you it will come across that way to everyone else.

River is in our top 2 for our little girl. I love it. DH finds it a bit wonky and was firmly against it for some time, but has been leaning toward being more "for" it in the last week. Our li'l one is due soon soon soon!

Haha. We would spell it Ryver. It is actually a real variation of the spelling of the name River. But I agree it would be one that we would constantly have to explain and correct, which is why we moved on from the name. Still the name though.

River is very very popular these days, at least in my area. My son has knows 3 Rivers in his school and the upper school has 2.

Not that it should matter but if you are looking for unique River is not it.

I always loved the name, especially because I huge crush on River Phoenix!

Although crazy as a loon.

I've only met male Rivers in real life. I detest Grace because it is so freaking popular right now.

I like the name for either sex. River James, River Grace, they're both lovely.

Don't forget River Phoenix, a guy.

River Tam was ...charmingly crazy. Intriguing.
