dry skin?

the skin on dd's forelegs and upper arms feels strange-- i would guess it's just dry. but i've been moisturizing it (with weleda baby calendula lotion) and it's getting worse (and spreading...)

there aren't any dry scaly excema-like patches, no redness. it just feels chapped. there are some random, tiny white bumps around her knees...

anyone have experience with this? is it just the time of year and the heat being on? is it her soap? the lotion? maybe i need a more heavy duty moisturizer...

My LO also has dry skin & little bumps, but he also has the red patches, which his doc said were eczema. We also use Weleda (cream not lotion) & that seems to help.
I am curious as to what others say . . .

Unless the symptoms progress and get worse, I wouldn't worry much. Your guess about the dry air from the heater and winter weather is good for now.

How often do you bathe her? Don't bathe her very often or for very long. Less than 5 minutes totally in water is best. If you're keeping her bottom clean with diaper changes, that's good enough.

Do you or her dad have a history of seasonal allergies or asthma?

as someone who's had dry skin all her life (runs in my family), it's really not a big deal if she's not uncomfortable. Lotion is good, but the dryness doesn't do much harm.

i'd say she gets a full-on bath every 3-5 days, and rarely longer than 5 minutes.

dad has asthma.

It is probably just dry skin from the heat being on... I use oil on DDs dry patches and it seems to work better than lotion. I either use plain olive oil or the California Baby unscented/sensitive skin.

my youngest has the same. i remember my older dd having it during the winter when she was around the same age. we've been using shea butter and its awesome. its even been great on a little patch of eczema i have on my finger AND when she gets a little red from diaper rash.
