7.5 mo. old and garlic hummus

She loves it! I gave her a few daubs on my finger because she was really reaching for it. If she's anything like me she has a passion for all things garlicky... but, do you think it'll hurt her tummy? We just started her on solids about two weeks ago. She's had apples, pears, a tiny bit of bread (which stopped her up, so that's out for now) and a couple bites of super-premium, no rsbt ice-cream. Also some squash, spinach, etc. in tiny amounts.

What do you think?

Homemade hummus was one of my DDs first foods, and yes, with lots of garlic. She still loves it to this day.
We did just a dab to start with, but by 13 months one of her favorite meals was (and still is) garlic hummus and labne with pita.
I'd say... enjoy!

I would do it, but I'm not that picky about such things. I just don't feed my babies things that are clearly junk food or foods that are too processed. Most hummus should be fine, it'd worry more about preservatives than garlic.

It's a great food, I wouldn't worry about it. I can't feed it to my DD because she has an intolerance to garlic, but I make it garlic-free for her. DS had some the other night, he's only a few weeks older than your babe. I made avocado hummus, your regular hummus recipe with an avocado thrown in. He thinks it's great!

My DD (8 mo) loves it too. Just be moderate about it - it might be hard on her tummy if she's not used to a lot of solids. And be aware of the salt content - we don't put any salt in ours when we make it, but most store-bought brands are heavily salted.

My 13mo chews on raw garlic. (Her choice, I didn't offer it, she takes it out of the box I store it in.) She has lots of food issues and that is one of the few things that don't bother her.

It's fine, in my opinion. But I've never been too picky about what I feed my babies. Once they're old enough for solids, really old enough, they're ready for pretty much anything we eat, with only a few exceptions, I think. A lot of our notions of what constitutes appropriate "baby food" are just cultural notions, anyway. I never hesitated to give my babies highly spiced or seasoned or salted foods, either. I want them to develop a taste for the foods that we eat here in our house, which I think is the best guard against toddler pickiness.

That's why my DD2's first word was "pepper." Meaning cayenne pepper, actually. She wanted it on EVERYTHING she ate.
