Can I make kombucha without a Scoby?

I don't have a scoby, but I do have an unopened bottle of GT's original kombucha. Can I use that?

I believe you can. Hopefully someone can give you a more specific run-down of how it is done... As far as I know you just add the bottle of kombucha to your sweetened tea and let it ferment as usual. That is assuming you know how to make kombucha. It's pretty easy stuff, the SCOBY growing. My kids LOVE kombucha, but have been known to leave half-full cups of it hidden in weird places. I've found those cups MANY days later and they will have a very healthy SCOBY forming on top. Kombucha just wants to grow SCOBYs.

yes, search thread titles in this forum for "kombucha" and you should find what I think of as the 'official' growing your own scoby thread.

Good Luck!
