Sonlight's Book of Time

Does anyone have one? How do you like it?
We use it, and we like it. We are doing two Cores, so each child has one. They also sell "timeline figures" that go along with what we are learning about. But it is just a blank timeline, so could be used in any way you choose. It is nice heavy paper and has a nice heavy spiral binding.

Thanks everyone.

It sounds like something I could technically make but maybe it's worth the $ since it's laid our for you along with the timeline figures?

It is very well designed, and looks as though it will last well. (We've had ours for just 18 months, but it still looks new.) I'd go for it.

Just so you know the timeline figures are sold separately.

Oh thanks - I did not notice that.

Hmmm, I can't tell from their website description who exactly the Kindergarten figures would be, etc... Do they sell the timeline figures in order of how a classical history would be taught or is it more of a mix?

Thanks!

Well, the K figures go along with Core K. So it is quite a mix. Everything from "Adam and Eve" to "Harriet Tubman".

Glad I asked! We plan to follow the classical layout for history so then this probably wouldn't work well for us (unless I bought up everything the first year which would be $$$).

We have one - it's a great book. It's just a very sturdy spiral bound book with heavy pages and a basic timeline running through the center. 8.5x11 inch pages, book about an inch thick so plenty of room to add figures. And pockets in the back.

The Sonlight figures probably wouldn't help you much, BUT if you order the Homeschool in the woods cd of timeline figures, you can print your own and use them as you choose -- I would consider that, since the book of time really is a nice resource. Sure, you can make your own, but it's really a solid book and you probably couldn't make it that sturdy for much less.

I actually ended up making our own to use with our Sonlight curr. I used a template from online free site and actually downloaded it to a local chain office supply store and had them print it off and bind for under $9 The paper I chose was a nicer heavy weight.

I did purchase the timeline figures but now I wish I had actually invested in one of those cd's with various pics you could use. There are several sites online that have them for free. YOu could easily save several and print them off on sticker printer paper ($7.99 at Staples for a 10 pack which could last a long time) plus I'd be able to customize them a little more if need be.

I actually started a thread this past fall on timelines. the link to the site for timelines is on there.
