s/o learning 2 or more languages... what about latin?

This is an interesting conversation.

I have thought about introducing Latin to my kiddos, but put it aside because my hubby has his heart set on learning Italian as a family. And actually I have considered putting off learning Italian for a little bit while we learn Latin so maybe the kidlets will have a better grasp of language learning if we started with Latin. But, again, I put it aside because hubby is set on Italian.

We have Rosetta Stone Italian, but I just haven't started it yet.

Does anyone have any opinions/experience/thoughts about Latin along with another foreign language? Or if people (not only children) have an easier time learning another foreign language if they have Latin in their language arsenal?

Thanks so much!

From what I have heard, mangopassion, Latin provides a nice base making it easier to pick up related languages later. I imagine that Latin and Italian could coincide nicely.

Latin does make it easier, IMO. I learned some latin in junior high by helping my cousin study for his college Latin every day. It gave me a major boost in learning French and I easily pick up languages now. My kids are learning French and Greek, but we are waiting to do full Latin until next year when they have more attention and grammatical skills to pick up the nuances of Latin better. We do Rummy Roots and English from the Roots up, though.
