garlic too soon? Turnip too late?

So clearly I'm not altogether on top of this!

Question 1-My garlic started to sprout just before the first big snow. Will it keep going in the spring or did I blow it?

Question 2- I planted way too much turnip last year. I left about 12' unharvested. Will they be good if I pull them from the frozen ground? What if I wait until spring?

Thanks!!!

I was wondering the same thing... all of my garlic is sprouted too.

Garlic should be fine. Worse comes to worse, the above-ground part dies back, but the root should be fine and will regrow. I think. I had a tendency to plant it a little later than most folks the last few years though, whoops.

You can try to pull the turnips. Or wait until the ground is not so rock-hard. I've harvested over-wintered carrots in March here in zone 5 before. Even dug them out from under 6 inches of snow (which is what insulated them). No worries. Not sure what overwintering does to turnips though, no experience with those yet.

The garlic will be just fine. Mine often starts sprouting and then dies back at least once during the winter.

in the sunnier, warmer spots mine always starts to sprout before the frost hits, its the roots that are important...
