Your birthing room of choice? - Page 2

Well, I haven't UC'd yet, but I did have a homebirth. I had planned on the tub, so all the mess could just go down the drain. I somehow ended up flat on my back in bed though-totally by choice. I don't know why but for some reason my instincts are always to lay down to push...I mean, I labored standing up the whole time and just when it came time to push, I felt like I needed to lay down. So odd!

So this time, I'm hoping for the tub again, but prepared for anywhere, lol.

Welllll, if I could have my dream UC, it would be outside in a tub on summer solstice, under the midnight sun...

But back to reality. My UC babe was born in my hallway unexpectedly. Next time, I'd probably "plan" for the bathroom floor, take a bath with the babe immediately after birth, and then promptly into bed.

Bedroom. Dark, dark bedroom.

When we picked out this house it was actually on my mind that our master bedroom would make a great UC room because it has a soaking tub right in the bedroom (odd layout) - of course then we (i.e. DH) decided not to have any more kids for now... Last time it was a bit uncomfortable because our apartment bathroom was too small to get comfy in, and I did get the bedroom floor VERY messy when I birthed in it. DH cleaned it up, bless his heart, and he didn't even mind. What's incredible is that it was the room he grew up in (same house that he lived in as a kid) so I guess it was even more symbolic for him than for me. But as for my own personal safety zone, I want to nest during birth, and that means to me my own bedroom and darkness. Gotta have the silence and dark.

I like to give birth in the bed that the baby was conceived in. That has a lot of sentimental meaning to me.

I think it's funny and so true than many of us UCer and probably even HBers, when we go looking at houses/apt/places to live we assess the bedrooms and bathrooms on how well they'd make as "birthing rooms". I know DH and I did this ALL the time when we "house shopped". More often than not it would be my DH pointing out "birthing flaws" to a room, LOL It was so funny to look at a bathroom and we'd both be thinking "No this room is too small to birth in." or "Wow that would be a perfect sized tub to birth in."

It just must be in out birthing genes!

Our midwife mentioned this several times wrt our attended homebirth. Dh and I stifled giggles every time. That baby was conceived during a holiday visit to the ILs....

I planned an outside birth for my uc, and it was going along swimmingly (ha-in the fishy pool on my patio) until a freak thunderstorm rolled in.

I thought I'd wait it out, but then lightning cracked too close for comfort and I jumped out of the pool and streaked into the bathroom. Two contractions later my baby fell out into my hands.

It's a tiny, tiny bathroom. I was alone in there b/c it's so small. Dh sat in the doorway.

we're two for two with living room conceptions and births. i didn't plan for a particular room with either of my uc's.

the first time, i wandered from the bedroom (where i had put several layers of mattress protectors and sheets on the bed, just in case), to the bathroom (where i hung out on the toilet for a few contractions, until my feet fell asleep), to the living room (where we had set up a nest of mattress protectors and towels on the floor, just in case), and that's where i stayed.

the second time, we did the same thing even though we were living in a different location, and things turned the same way.

next time, we'll probably set everything up the same way again. however, we're living in yet another location, and i can see myself staying in our bedroom this time-- it's *huge*, we don't have children co-sleeping full-time anymore, and the master bathroom is quite large with a very spacious soaking tub. the master closet is also very big (large enough that we have an air-mattress set up in it for dh to sleep on it during the day-- he works nights), so i might even spend some time in there... and yes, all these things went through my mind when we were considering buying this house!

The baby in my belly now was conceived in the tub I want to give birth in. I guess I just go the other way around, LOL...

There are two places I can see setting up my tub. One is the living room in front of the woodstove, sort of the center of the home in the winter.
The other is on the floor of my bedroom. The advantage to this is the bathroom is right there whereas both our bathrooms are kind of far from the livingroom. The bedroom is seeming more like the place, plus it is kind of nice and nook like up there, but still spacious. As long asI have ample protection- plastic sheets and stuff- over the bed and rug and stuff, I am leaning towards there. I think I will try to set up a couple of nooks so I have options or a few places to be.

The living room. Last time and this time. I even see it in my visual daydreaming. I was really dependent on the toilet for part of my labouring last time. It felt good there for awhile. But it didn't last.

The birthing pool will be in the sitting room near the back sliding glass doors. Its the only place in the house it will fit whilst still being out of the way a bit. Also - near the sliding glass doors I have 'green house' warmth and can open them for some fresh air as well...and then emptying it will be easier! hehe... So thats for when I want to be in the pool...

Of course - I can see me walking all over the house before then. I love the height of the spare bed in the 'playroom' because I could lean on that very comfortably if I wanted to! ...
The bathroom is great and probably where I will be in early labour (shower - toilet, etc! lol) ...

Will see how it goes!

DH thinks outside in our garden will be best...but thats another story lmao

I have birthed three on a bed, two in a prepared place on the floor of the master bedroom, four in the bathroom, and one in the hospital on a bed. My birthing room of choice is my bathroom. I love the little, and easy, clean up as well as the access to the toilet and shower.

My bathroom is my cozy birthing cave. I've birthed 2 babies in it. One UC, one MW attended. I can't imagine myself birthing anywhere else!
