Aversion to Raw Milk???

I love love love milk. We have a great source for raw milk that gets delivered to our door. I'm 11 weeks pregnant though and starting a week or two ago, the thought of it makes me sick. I really wanted to enjoy it throughout pregnancy and reap the benefits, but that doesn't look like it's going to happen.

Anyone else have the same experience? Was it short lived?

Could it be that you have a dairy sensitivity and now that the pregnancy is requiring more of your body, it's having a hard time coping with drinking the milk? Just a thought. I know for me, pregnancy brought a lot of underlying issues I was having (mainly food sensitivities to the surface).

I never really thought about that. I do still consume (and crave) yogurt in my green smoothies and cheese on all kinds of things.

How did you know which foods were causing sensitivity issues for you?

I have always had an aversion to milk- but tried it the best I could in pregnancy #1. And now I have 2 kids w/ sensitivies/intolerances. I haven't trialed it w/ #3 yet. For myself I don't think it is so much of an issue- only due to some yeast issue and perhaps some lactose issue(I think that was secondary to undiagnosed Celiac's though and am hoping that perhaps I had enough healing between 2 and 3 that #3 doesn't have the same issue) but the kids have a casein issue. anyway, all of this to say listen to your body I says!

For me it was always a taste issue. It seemed like when pregnant my sense of taste was even more sensitive than before. While before I was pregnant I could maybe get past an "off" flavor it got to be very difficult after I was pregnant and tbh I've never been able to move past it. To me the vast majority of grass-fed raw milk tastes like a barn yard smells (no matter the source)...the butter even more so.

It's entirely likely it won't be like that for you, though. A number of the other food aversions I had while pregnant went away the further I got in the pregnancy...at the very least at the end of pregnancy.

It is possible to be allergic to raw milk too. My dad is extremely allergic to raw milk (anaphylactic), has a pronounced sensitivity to pasteurized milk, and does fine with cooked milk products (cheese & butter). I want to try raw milk myself, but considering I am the same way with regular vs cooked milk products, I am a little nervous about trying and giving raw milk to my kids.

It might be your body's way of protecting you against something that isn't good for your body right now, even if it is generally considered healthy.

Interesting ... I read recently that raw milk is high in histamine and if you are histamine intolerant not to drink raw because of the problems processing it (most people are ok with the level of histamine ... only people with histamine intolerance have problems).

I had a really strong aversion to raw kefir, a slight aversion to raw milk, and a total-lose-it aversion to eggs when I got pregnant this last time. It turns out that I've developed a sensitivity to dairy and eggs over the past couple of years. Some itching symptoms I'd been having for over a year went entirely away when I stopped the eggs and dairy.

I am in grief about it, but my body was pretty clear. I've been working on gut healing since figuring it out, and when I test them now, I do better. My only goal is to get back to where I can eat regular small amounts in foods -- I don't think I'll ever be a milk drinker again. Sigh. Sigh sigh sigh sigh. Sigh.

But maybe that's not it for you! Just thought I'd share, though.
