Why is my 4mo old eating my face?

He just started doing this a few days ago...just suddenly opens his mouth and tries to eat/suck on my face (cheek, nose, or chin) while shaking his head back and forth, with a little growling sound. He also seems to be doing this also to shoulders. Does anyone know what this might indicate?

isn't it hysterical?! my dd used to do this a lot from around 2-4 mo... she still does it occassionally, but I sorta miss it. she would grab my face, make this funny little ack ack ack noise and then attack... so stinking cute.

DD eats my face to tell me that what she really wants is boobie! If he's doing it often or when you're not expecting him to be hungry, perhaps he's having the classic 4-month growth spurt.

I kind of love it when she does it!

But if your lo isn't hungry, it's probably not that.

Ds is almost 4 months, and he is really into chewing on things and getting anything he can into his mouth now that he can. He chews on his hands, my fingers, his blanket, etc. Dd started getting teeth at 4 months, so it could be the beginning of teething too. Cute, though. I agree.

Yeah, it was definitely rooting for our DD. Hubby would use his nose as a gage for if she was hungry lol.

Bwahaha. My son used to sometimes latch on to my face when he was hungry... now he does it all the time seemingly for fun. I think it's because I'm constantly kissing his face. He does it and then giggles.

Adorable, yet slimy. That sums him up pretty well.

My dd did that all the time. She loved to suck on chins especially. I think it was just a part of her exploring her world.

Awww, baby kisses!!! I love them. I worried that he was still hungry, but no, he didn't want the boob, he wanted to suck mama's face off! And, to make it even cuter, he'll do it and then pull back and just grin this big gummy grin at me. Melts my heart.

My DD (6.5 mo) does this when she's hungry and fussy/tired. As if to tell me, "hey mom, I'm so hungry and tired that I'm going to eat your face!"

My 10 month old does that to my nose. If it's close enough, she'll open her mouth and move towards my nose. Then she'll either lick it or stick it in her mouth while giggling, it's really cute.

this sounds like millie. i love it that she does it and then pulls away and goes awwwwwwww and then goes back for more.

My ds does this too and I love it! It seems like sometimes he really thinks my cheek is a boob. He has totally latched onto my nose before and started sucking! So cute and slimy. I also agree it probably has to do with the fact that I am always kissing his face, and that he's hungry.

All of my boys did it. I love it. I have the best pictures of them doing the face attack. In their case I think it was kisses.

The baby now though plays a game with me. We see who can get who's chin first. I nibble on his or he gets to suck on mine. Then we crack up laughing. He is 7 months and it is a fun game for us.
