washing question

So I wasn't exactly sure which sub-category to put this in, but...

I recently started making my own detergent with bar soap, borax, and washing soda. A friend mentioned after that (of course) that she thought that she had read somewhere that borax may cause reproductive issues. I did a little research, and what I found said that ingesting a large amount over a long period of time, has caused reproductive issues in lab animals (gulp, I hate that thought!). Has anyone else heard anything similar, or have any answers for me?

Also, I use oxy-clean for my nursing uniform, any thoughts on using it for ds's clothes? Dipes?

Hmmm...I haven't heard anything about this before, so I can't really help, but I use borax too, and I don't think it would cause any reproductive issues (or otherwise) in your laundry, since you are not ingesting it, and the rinse cycle would take it out of your clothes, so it's not like it's really touching your skin.

I don't know about the borax- I use it and am not going to worry about it. But I am the ultimate lazy girl and I just grate off a little bar soap in my laundry and use 2 T dry mix (1/3 borax, 1/3 washing soda, and 1/3 oxyclean). It works awesome. Then my diaper mix is just the 2T of dry mix and 1T of bleach with an extra rinse. This is how I do all my laundry- I have a DS with sensitive skin- but this doesn't bother him at all.
