x-posted in toddlers
Interested in any ideas about useful responses to my sweet-tempered boy's new interest in aggressive/violent talk. *Mostly* just talk, although he will occasionally kick or hit as well. It seems like he's working with the idea of violence, and in general this is not in the context of him being angry -- he just talks a lot about "I'm going to crash you!" "I'm going to kick you!" or "There's fire in your eye!" (lately there's also a lot of "poop in your eye!")
My response, so far, has been to more or less ignore it, or respond very neutrally. "Oh, really, poop in my eye AGAIN?" If he actually does hit or kick, I've taken him out of the action and explained that it is NOT ok to hurt people etc. What I would like is some more ideas about things that he CAN hit, and kick, and crash, and destroy -- pillows and balls seem a bit limited, and that's pretty much all I've been able to come up with so far. Also would love input on whether this is a totally normal toddler stage, or whether I should be paying more attention to it -- i.e. some need he has that's not being met?
thanks!
