Is this a ridiculous idea? (long)

My DD started to climb out of her crib a couple of weeks ago. She is in her toddler bed now, but it's really not going too well. Most nights she ends up sleeping on the floor or just refuses to sleep in the bed to begin with. She'll throw her blankets and pillow on the floor and make herself a bed.

After that, she usually wakes up around 4 or 5 a.m. and either comes into bed with me or I go snuggle with her. Sleeping on the floor or in what is basically a crib is killing my back though. I have an extra double bed mattress at my parents' house. Is it silly to give that to her, hoping that she'll like it better and it will also save my back when I end up with her?

We don't cosleep. I work evenings and a sitter puts her to bed at night.

I think it sounds like a great idea! I would rather have done that from the start instead of purchasing a toddler bed for our son.

Yep our DD has never had a bed smaller than a full It rocks when we sleep in there with her or when she's with us in the Queen. Comfortable bed = happy human, kid or not, and those toddler matresses just don't seem comfortable!

I'm a great believer in childproofing the room, add a babygate at the door, mattress on the floor and you have a crib!

Just out of curiosity, is the crib still present in the room? I ask because my DS was happy to sleep in his toddler bed once I removed the crib. Out of sight, out of mind.

It's a convertible crib - I removed the front and put a toddler rail on. I am going to get the mattress tomorrow.

Thank you all!
