Natural gas/digestion remedies

My 13 month old has been waking up a lot at night and we are thinking she might have digestion issues - she gets a gurgling sound in her throat when she nurses sometimes, seems to have a lot of gas, spits up a few times a week, and goes a few days in between poops.

is there a natural remedy we can use for gas/digestion? would gripe water help? any homemade remedies i can make with ginger or something?

Thanks!!

What is she eating? Is the gas after certain foods, or after breastfeeding, or all the time...?

Some natural remedies:

* Anise seeds, caraway seeds, dill seeds and fennel seeds (all are available at health food stores).

To release the essential oils, gently crush the seeds and add 1 teaspoon to a cup of just-boiled water. Let it steep for 10 minutes. Strain and drink. If the gas pains don't disappear right away, drink another cup of the seed tea before eating your next meal.

Ginger tea might also be a good idea, but better still is to find the source of the gas and eliminate it from her diet. If she still primarily gets nutrition from breastmilk as she should, then you may need to try an elimination diet to see what she is reacting to. This is pointing to allergies in the future and problems with the gut which is connected to the whole immune system. Better to find the source if possible rather than treat the symptom.

thanks bfbobby -

yes she still gets most of her nutrition from breastmilk. we know she is allergic to dairy (she gets hives) but it didnt seem to bother her when i ate it, but we're wondering if that might be causing some of her problems. so i'm on day 6 of no dairy. we haven't noticed a change yet but i know it can take awhile.

she seems to have digestion problems often. she does eat a lot of beans, but i would hate to limit those because they're healthy and she loves them.

Try bicycling the legs - it helps DD2, sometimes!
