Moving from our bed to crib in our room- sidecar or not?

We would like to keep 7 month old DS in our room, but would like to get him in his crib. He is the size of a 2 year old and its getting really hard for everyone to sleep comfortably.
So, should I start with sidecarring the crib or just try the crib in our room but fairly close to the bed?
He is still nursing and nurses occasionally at night. I do notice that at times he will wake up and look around and as long as he sees me he will fall back asleep. I am afraid that he is going to have a hard time adjusting to not being close to me.
HELP!
TIA!

Hi Kali

If it were me, I would try sidecarring first since you are worried about him not seeing you at night. You might as well start there, and put one side of the crib down, and you can transition later to having the crib away from the bed if you even feel the need.

Sidecarring the crib was the best decision we made, and are looking forward to starting with it right off the bat with this babe!

Good luck.

I like sidecarring too, especially for the fact that I can just roll over and nurse DD in the side lying position. No getting out of bed

We are trying a similiar idea. Right now DD starts the night in bed (I nurse her to sleep) and then I leave the room until I go to bed. At that time, I move her over to the crib which is sidecared to the bed until she wakes up to nurse and then I bring her back to bed with me. Some nights I will move her back to the crib after nursing if I am still awake.

another vote for side-carring!
that way, if he doesn't take to the crib easily, he'll be right there next to you and its less disturbing for everyone.
I love having DD (who is also 7months) in the sidecar, she's right there but we also have our own space. And on rough nights she just stays in with us.
good luck!
