Hello
We currently use, and are very happy with, Story of the World Vol 1.. I do need to add in American History.. and am looking for some suggestions on a program.. hopefully not too $$.. independent as well as together work would be a plus. DS is a very good reader. Something fun, with a good teacher guide.

It can be secular or not, doesn't matter.

Thanks for your suggestions!

i think the guest hollow curriculum would work nicely with SOTW & is perfect for grade 3. i am considering it for my two children next year. it's free. you can get books at the library or purchase them. the author suggest many titles & you can simply pick and choose. here's the link:

I am using WinterPromise - American Story 1 with my 2nd grader. He loves it, it is full of living books. You can buy the living books with the program, or just order the program syllabus and student pack and then get the books from the local library as you use them. It uses "The American Story" as its spine but I found it too light for my DS (he loves, loves, all things history) and I use Joy Hakims "A History of US" (it is a 10 volume set) the first 5 books will get you through AS1 with WinterPromise.

You can also buy the Bible stories and it integrates them into the lesson plan for you, as well as the LA program and Science if you decide. We purchased the LA program and Readers, love the readers but are using a different LA program. We also got it with the Native American focus and it has been awesome. I will say there is more info and projects than you will ever use, but with a history nerd like mine it was perfect. Good Luck!
