upper abdominal tenderness?

I was just reading that pain in the upper abdominal area can be a symptom of pre-eclampsia. Has anyone experienced this? What is it like?

I ask because right at the top of my belly, like right where my belly pokes out from the center of my ribs, there is a tender/tingly spot. It doesn't hurt too much - just feels sensitive to the touch and a little numb. Anyone experienced anything like this before? (I'm almost 37 weeks.)

I asked my doctor about this today. I'm having some abdominal tenderness in the very middle (almost exactly where you describe). She said not to worry unless it became a chronic/stabbing pain towards my right side and/or I had other signs pre-eclampsia. My guess is that my inner organs are just getting squished!
Also, it reminds me of where I had pain when i was having gallbladder problems (but, I no longer have a gallbladder, so I know that's not the problem this time). Hopefully it'll turn out to be nothing for you too!

I had upper abdominal tenderness with dd, in the week before she was born. It was bad though. I took baths in the middle of the night to try and calm it down. It over a few days that my midwife was on the other side of the country (South Africa). A trip she organised long before she became my midwife. I eventually phoned her in the early morning hours after a particularly bad night and ended up going to the ER. DD was fine, my blood pressure and everything else was fine. No contractions either. Nurse told me I was supposed to feel uncomfortable at 39 wks. I nearly punched her. Dd was born a few days later and we never did figure out what the pain was about. Our suspicion is that she was trying to turn around again (kept flipping between breach and head down), but that she couldn't quite manage it. Maybe your little one is kicking you somewhere where it really hurts? Oh, also, the pain (mine was for sure much more than just tenderness) would get so much better if dh gave me a back rub.

I get that a lot. It's slightly to the right and up a teensy bit from my belly button. It's kind of tingly/numbish and just kind of tender. I guess I always just attributed it to stretching skin/muscles and their coping abilities. ... I've gotten that in al my pregnancies (that I recall) and I've had no symptoms at all of pre-e. Just my $0.02

Oooh I have this, too, sounds just like as you describe, kind of like I would expect to find a bruise there, but there isn't, and it doesn't go away. It isn't bad, though, but I am only just shy of 16 weeks
