moving to another state close to birth?

Has anyone ever moved close to when they gave birth? What was your experience like?

DH is considering a job, but they'd want him to start about the time I'm due to deliver... thinking about how to work this out blows my mind. Thoughts?

When my best friend was in this situation (they were moving cross country and far away from friends and family) she choose to stay behind until after baby came. Her DH arranged to be able to come home for two weeks. She had a repeat C-Section, which made the timing of his trip back easier. It was all hard on them, but easier, she felt, than moving at that point.

My step-sister also moved in late pregnancy, she came with her husband, and transferred care, finding a great practice that took her with not much time left to go. Things went fine, although a whirlwind, I'm sure.

Good luck! That's a lot to think about so late in pregnancy!

I will be moving at 30 weeks which is not such a big deal... but even with that date...

I have my provider down in NC already picked, already notified, asked them THEIR requirements for prenatal care and any tests the state mandates (like STD testing) pre-birth so that the baby does not need to be tested after the birth... and gave all of this information to my primary care up here who will be taking care of it for me.

Then, the day before the move... I will be going in to be checked up... and then checked again the day I get down there.

Im not sure how we would have done this if it were closer to my due date though.

I've moved, but never that close to delivery.

I'd be worried about changing insurance at that time.... different coverage, copays, losing out on all of the deductible you've already met.. so I'd probably bite the bullet and do COBRA for a month or two. My friend moved a month or so before delivery, and had to pay $2000 out of pocket. That was her new insurance company's policy. Evil.

If I had family in the area, then I'd probably stay put.

If I did not, I would consider moving--as long as I could fine a provider and hospital/birth center I was comfortable with.

I plan to stay where I live now to actually deliver. If DH has to go up to start the job before the rest of the family, that will be fine. I guess I'm concerned about having a newborn and having to deal with moving, settling in, etc... seems like too much to deal with at once!

I'm worried about establishing breastfeeding (my DS1 and I didn't get a good rhythm until 6 weeks postpartum), not having friends/family nearby, postpartum depression induced by stress, etc...
