sleeping baby and older siblings....

my LO is 4 months. During the week, he's an only child and rules the home. Naps in his bassinet in "the boys" room, or on the boppy on the sofa. Mostly in the bassinet though.

But Friday comes and we get DSS who is 3.5 and very rambunctious... so far we haven't come up with a good solution. Obviously my LO can't sleep in "the boys" room cause that's where DSS is playing, and the sofa is out. So I take the bassinet into our room, which really... he's having nothing to do with. It's like he knows it's his nighttime bedroom and won't sleep. And I'm sure he's also not wanting to sleep cause there's activity in the house. He doesn't this when we have company, because he's so social and doesn't want to be put down til everything's quiet.

So... how do your LO's sleep with older siblings around? Do they have this, not wanting to sleep because the house is active, thing?

I would suggest keeping everything as consistent as possible. As your baby gets older it's going to be harder and harder for him to sleep just anywhere. It might be a good time to just have him start sleeping in one spot all the time. So even during the week when your DSS is not there, still have the baby sleep in your room or wherever his permanent sleep spot is.

Also you might want to get a white noise machine. This is a lifesaver for us because there is no way my 8-month-old could sleep when my 4 and 6-year-olds get too rowdy during nap.

When the baby goes down for a nap you could have the 3-year-old have quiet play time: books, play doh, coloring, etc. and hopefully your baby will not realize there is other activity in the house that he is missing.

It might take a few days for your DS to get used to sleeping in your bedroom but he should catch on pretty quickly and he might even start going down easier because he will know when he goes in there that he is supposed to be sleeping....ideally anyway

Good luck!
