my child has been sick for about 11 days now. he missed school last week. Just a nasty virus-coughing attacks, up several times per night, congestion, fever, no appetite. Last night was the first night he slept all night long in 11 nights. Today his nose was a little runny and he coughed a little but for the most part he is acting like himself, eating etc. Tomorrow is school. I am not sure if I should keep him home assuming he does ok tonight and let him have another day to get stronger before sending him back into germville. Or if I should send him tomorrow. I really don't care about him missing school-it's only preschool. I just don't know if I am being overly cautious. He was SO SICK-we even spent money out of pocket to take him to an ND last week-we didn't even do that when he had H1N1........I'm thinking of keeping him home.

When my dd is sick she hangs on to the runny nose and cough for a long time after she is well so I don't think of those things as reasons to stay home. If his fever is gone and he is feeling like himself then I think you should send him if you feel like you are ready for him to go back. I think it is also fine to keep him home as long as you don't feel like it is really time for you to get a few hours of peace. I know that when I spend a long time meeting my child's needs when she is sick I am really ready for her to go back to school so I can be by myself and not be touched or asked for anything for a few hours, but not everyone needs that same type of space so I think you should make your choice based on your needs and his health status.
thanks moms-He is home with me. It's snowing out(I hate driving in the snow) and he was up coughing 2-3times last night again. plus I feel lousy so we just stayed home for another much needed pj day. My husband was on kid dutya ll weekend because I'm sick now so I don't mind having him home with me. I'd rather he be real strong. I guess had i waited until morning I would have known the answer!
