I am asking this here cause I wanna know if anyone knows any food sources to ease an extreme case of constipation. MIL is in pain and I was wondering if there is anything in our pantry that may help...
She is drinking LOTS of water... ate a few prunes... should we try psyllium? THANKS!

Stewed rhubarb can produce some pretty fast, impressive results. Stew up a good amount using as little water as possible, and add a lot of sugar (it needs a lot to make it palatable). For even better results, mix with plain yogurt.

something with magnesium. My DD had a lot of trouble with constipation and I tried EVERYTHING, including TONS of prunes. Finally I started giving her magnesium every day and now her poops are much more tolerable. And have her try to limit her dairy, as dairy can be very constipating. Especially hard cheeses.

I always take a lot of vit c- it clears things up right away. Or a can of beans.

KAL brand Dolomite Powder, which is calcium and magnesium (don't go with just any brand of it--that is a trusted brand recommended by the WAPF) My dad had decades of constipation where he would go only every 3 days or so. He's been taking the Dolomite Powder for a few months now and he goes every day now. What a relief. High quality probiotics like Natren brand should help too.

It depends how she got into the situation in the first place. Excess fiber can actually cause constipation, or make it worse.

If you have any kind of lubricant around, a bit of lubricant can help get things started if there is hard stool compacted in the rectum that is hard to pass. If you are going to go to the store for something, glycerin suppositories work, like almost instantly.

I am trying to eat something cultured/fermented with every meal, other than breakfast. (Though I could add some yogurt easily, as I think of it...) I think that is helping. I also take coconut oil and Natural Calm too. I had major issues with constipation last spring/summer, and it's been good so far this time around...

Super Seed by Garden of Life helped me. Psyllium is too harsh in my opinion and gave me the runs. Super Seed is sprouted flax, chia and other sprouted legumes/grains.

I know you're probably looking for a solution right now, but if this is a chronic condition for her, I've had great luck (and regularity) just adding a fish oil supplement to my daily routine! After having been on it for only a couple of weeks I started noticing that I was regular in a way I'd never been before...HTH!
