Help me Love this name!! Franklin

My DH is very much set on the name Franklin if our LO is a boy.
He can't even think of other names, and neither can I...

I just never imagined it as a name I would use.
Frank just sounds like an old man's name to me.

Tell me what you think of it... I really want it to grow on me more because its a family name and so important to DH.

Would this be a Jr? If not I am so sorry , it reminds me of Frank on Everybody loves Raymond. Maybe as a middle name. I just think that both of you have to be in agreement on a child's name. I would not name a child of ours something I really didn't like. A name is for a life time.

Franky!

First thing I think of is Roosevelt... Which, depending on your views... is either a really good connection or a really bad one.

I also think of Franklin the Turtle... my son loved that show.

But Franky is a cute name!

I'm sorry... But I just can't! I don't like Frank or Franky. I personally could possibly handle Franklin, but I'm sure people would shorten it. Good luck!

DH's middle name is Ralph-Franklin (after both his grandfathers) - DH really wants Ralph as a first name for a son and I just can't ever see that... so would he consider Franklin as a middle name? Honestly, I don't mind Franklin at all, it's cute, Ralph bothers me more (vomit connotations).

our kitten is named Franklin and I love it! We call him Frank, Frankie, Franks, franklinstein, etc., but I can see it being tougher to take seriously for a human baby. I hope it grows on you if you're stuck with it!

I like it! But I actually like old man names for little boys.

My first connection was Franklin, TN. I also thought of Franklin the turtle. I think it's a good name for a boy/man of any age.

I think it's a good name, and I actually like the nickname Frank. But then again, we're probably going to name our little guy Arthur, so I obviously don't have an issue with "old man names."

i knew a Franklin growing up, it takes some getting use to but the name sounds totally normal to me now! I also think Franky is really cute for a baby/toddler/kid .. i have known a 20-something 'Frank' too .. once you are using the name for a baby you won't have the old man mental picture anymore..

I that name, but I'm like you...I wouldn't have loved it at first. Then we met a little boy at the playground named Franklin, and the name is just *perfect* on him. Really. It's a wonderful name...so cute on a kid, but so adult-sounding, too.

And really...Benjamin Franklin isn't such a bad person to share a name with. Think of all his cool accomplishments and great writing!

I personally love the name Franklin! It's super cute!!

Hey, it's Franklin...the little turtle cartoon? Okay, so maybe that's not a selling point, lol.

Our neighbor's grandson is Frankie - it's a really cute name. Plain Frank is a bit hard to love though.

Can you use a middle name that you end up calling him by?

I know I already posted, but I forgot that I wanted to tell you that I know what it feels like to have a DH who is set on a name to a point where he doesn't even want to hear other ones.

I finally got him to consider one or two other names, but by that point, I was so used to hearing him call the baby by the name he was originally set on that it felt weird.

Franklin Roosevelt or Roosevelt Franklin? I thought of the latter, but maybe I'm dating myself... but he was cool!

I really don't like it. If it was my dh I'd say it could be a middle name but not a first.

This sounds like me and DH, except he was set on the name Remy and wouldn't consider any other suggestions! I had initially agreed to the name, but felt dread everytime I thought of calling DS by that name. When I looked at our newborn, the name just didn't fit, and thankfully DH agreed. So we scoured baby name books for another name at the hospital so we could name DS before we left. DH still didn't like any! So I suggested Riley, which was a name we had considered for a girl, but works for a boy, and thankfully we finally agreed on something!!! And the name suits DS very well.

If you don't *really* like the name, it may never grow on you. I think it's really important for both parents to like their child's name. I would talk to DP and let him know that you'd like him to have a few more names picked out because that name isn't growing on you, but you would compromise and use it as a middle name (if you agree to that).

Good luck!

I actually love the name Franklin. I told DH if we ever have a need for a second boy's name, Franklin is definitely on the table.

We planned to use the nickname Fin (or Finn) so it is kinda cute but he could use Franklin as an adult if he so chose. That's another option if you really don't like Frank or Frankie as a nickname.

ETA: Frank is a family name for us as well so I understand trying to please DH but at the same time coming up with a name you like as well.
