40w+ VBAC, need some opinions

Okay, today I am 40w3d. I have a very supportive VBAC OB. I have GD (have been controlling with diet alone but my numbers are starting to get a little wacky now at the end) and my DD was 10lbs 7oz. but that has not caused him to play any of the normal tricks you hear about OBs throwing out at the end of pregnancies. So, my OB is out of town tomorrow thru Sunday. The other 2 OBs in the practice that would be on call this week are not VBAC friendly. One will not do a VBAC and my dr said the other one would probably do it if he asked him to. So, my dr basically wants me to take it easy this week because he really wants me to not go into labor until he is back. He said try to stay at home and rest, no walking, no sex, etc. Obviously, none of us really have any control over when I go into labor. (and the thought of being pregnant for another whole week is not that appealing) On Thursday, he put me at 50% effaced, 2cm dilated, and -3 station. Today, he said there was no change. I've had lots of BH contractions, but no "real" contractions. I have had some mucousy discharge over the weekend. He told me today that he doesn't really want to see me go past 42 weeks with the GD but we don't have anything set in stone or scheduled anything. I have invested so much time in keeping him as my care provider, no matter the enormous inconvenience it has been to me at times. I would really like to give birth while he is here because I would like to not have to put up a fight in labor. However, I don't want to "waste" a whole week of basically sitting around and not being active to try to avoid labor when we're kind of pushing time as it is with the GD.

So, I guess I'm looking for some advice here.

I know the baby isn't going to come until he's ready. I don't know if I want to sit around all week trying to keep labor at bay so that I don't end up going to labor and having to argue & fight with the OB on call or if I should stay active, take walks, have sex (haven't done that in a couple weeks ) to try to get things happening since I really want to be able to go into labor on my own in order to give me a better chance at VBAC success. I'm not looking to do castor oil or anything like that at this time. I already talked to my doula about waiting at home as long as possible if I end up going into labor when the anti-VBAC dr is on call.

If I were you, I would stay active. Laying around won't guarantee that you won't go into labor, but might cause some fetal positioning problems. If you go into labor while your doctor is gone and have one of the on-call docs, I think your plan of laboring at home until you feel you really need to be in the hospital, is a good one.

I agree, I would stay active too. If you don't your GD could get more out of control. I was 42 weeks VBAC and I walked and exercised all the time trying to get labor started but it started when the time was right no matter what I did.
Good luck, I hope you get your OB!
