.....crib bumpers or 4 month old playing jail-break with the crib slats???

lately she loves rolling all over and playing with the slats of her crib. she really gets her arms and legs down in there in between the matress and it scares me that she will somehow get wedged in between the slats and the matress. (i've seen the horror stories on tv.)

but then there are the bumpers and the SIDS scares and i think they might say that bumpers pose an entrapment hazard as well. ugh.

so how do i keep her safe in there?

There should not be any gap between the mattress and the side of the crib. Not any more than like a pencil width. So if your crib has gaps big enough for a baby's leg, you need a new crib or mattress or both. That gap won't be fixed with a bumper. Bumper is more for cushioning in case your baby hits the slats with her head or limbs.

For us bumper is a must. My 13 mo DD moves around the crib so much, she used to wake up at night from hitting her head onto slats. She STTN after we put a really cushy bumper!

Yeah that. We have no gap at all between the mattress and side of the crib - I have to lift the mattress up to put a clean crib sheet on it. We use a breathable bumper just so it's less likely for DS to get his arm or leg stuck in the slats.
